Step Beyond the Barriers and Inside the Circle

Step Beyond the Barriers and

Inside the Circle

Updated August 2025

For most visitors with a General Admission ticket, Stonehenge is admired from behind the ropes, but the Stone Circle Experience offers something far rarer: the chance to step inside the monument itself. Taking place only in the early morning or evening, when the site is closed to regular ticket holders, this intimate tour allows you to stand among the mighty sarsens and bluestones while expert guides reveal their history, mysteries, and meaning.

How Early to Book:

6 months ahead of visit.

Tickets Released:

Tickets are currently available through the end of March 2026.

Ticket price:

£70 to £77 for adults depending on day.

Where to Book:

Each session lasts about one hour and is strictly capped at 52 people, split into two groups of 26 to ensure a manageable and personal experience. After meeting at the visitor centre, you’ll board a shuttle bus and head out across the Salisbury Plain to the stones. Groups alternate between an immersive guided walk inside the circle and a tour of the surrounding features, including the evocatively named Slaughter Stone and the towering Heel Stone, aligned with the midsummer sunrise.

Once inside, there is plenty of time for photographs and quiet reflection. While you cannot touch or climb on the stones, you can stand at their base—closer than nearly any visitor will ever get. Guides share stories about the builders, their rituals, and how the monument was preserved across millennia.

The Stone Circle Experience is available most of the year, but not in October or November. Early morning sessions let you enjoy the peace of the monument at sunrise, with the café and exhibition centre opening on your return. Evening sessions begin about an hour before the site closes, offering a chance to explore the visitor centre before joining your group for the walk out to the stones.

The Stone Circle Experience is Stonehenge at its most powerful—when the crowds are gone and you can stand among the stones themselves. Whether at dawn with the light spilling across Salisbury Plain or in the stillness of evening, it’s a rare and unforgettable encounter with Britain’s most famous prehistoric monument.
